Marco Mendoza

Marco Mendoza is the kind of musician I admire most: the dependable craftsman who makes everyone around him sound better. As a bassist who has moved fluidly across rock and beyond since launching his professional career on Bill Ward's solo work, he embodies the unglamorous discipline that holds a song together. I find genuine dignity in that role. Frontmen get the spotlight, but the low end is where a band lives or dies, and players like Mendoza rarely get their due. His credits include live albums by Whitesnake, Thin Lizzy and Journey. I would happily watch him play all night.
