Marco Ruas

Marco Ruas is, to me, an essential name in the early history of mixed martial arts. A Brazilian schooled in judo, boxing, taekwondo and muay thai, he embodied true cross-disciplinary fighting before the sport had even settled into weight classes, and his UFC 7 tournament title proved it was no theory. The "King of the Streets" tag fit a man who could strike, grapple and dismantle opponents' legs with brutal calm. That he later coached and shaped younger fighters means he left a path, not just a record. I salute pioneers like him, and I want his contribution remembered.
