Matt Gaetz

Gaetz is impossible to ignore in modern American politics, whether you find him compelling or exhausting. He built a national profile as a combative, media-savvy provocateur who relished picking fights even within his own party, most memorably in the move to oust the House Speaker. Love him or loathe him, he understood the attention economy of contemporary politics better than most of his colleagues. His career has been as much about cable-news theater and online clashes as about legislation, which is exactly why he became such a lightning rod.
