My Take
What I admire about Matt Martin is that he built a career on the unglamorous work most fans overlook. At 191 cm out of Windsor, Ontario, he never chased the highlight reel; instead he protected teammates, threw bone-rattling checks, and once held the NHL single-season hits record. To me that kind of grinder-enforcer is the soul of hockey, the guy who does the dirty, necessary things so the scorers can shine. Skating for the Islanders and Maple Leafs, he earned respect the hard way. I have real fondness for players like him who win without ever needing the spotlight.
