My Take
Connelly is, to me, the gold standard for procedural crime fiction precisely because he started as a crime reporter. You can feel the journalist in every page: the city is reported, not invented, and Harry Bosch reads like someone Connelly actually shadowed. What impresses me most is the consistency. A debut Edgar in 1993 could have been a peak, but the awards kept coming across decades, which only happens when a writer refuses to coast. I love that he trusts the grind of police work to be dramatic enough on its own. He's a craftsman who respects both his characters and his readers.
