My Take
Michel Ancel is one of those quiet architects of joy that the gaming world too rarely celebrates. To create Rayman and then deliver something as soulful as Beyond Good & Evil shows a designer who cared about wonder, not just mechanics. What strikes me most is that France honored him with the Ordre des Arts et des Lettres, recognition that video games can be genuine art. He never seemed to chase the spotlight, yet the worlds he colored live on in countless childhood memories. Now retired, Ancel leaves behind a body of work that proves imagination, more than spectacle, is what truly endures.
