My Take

Mike Von Erich is impossible to discuss as just a wrestler. He was a son of the Von Erich dynasty, one of five brothers in the ring, and like so many in that family his story ended in tragedy at only twenty-three. I think of the impossible weight he carried, expected to match the shine of his brothers while bearing the family curse that shadowed them all. The eventual WWE Hall of Fame induction honored the clan, but it cannot soften the sadness. With Mike I would rather remember the human cost than the statistics, and hold his short life with quiet care.

Overview

Michael Brett Adkisson (March 2, 1964 – April 12, 1987) was an American professional wrestler under the ring name Mike Von Erich. His four brothers, David, Kerry, Kevin, and Chris, also wrestled. He was the son of longtime Texas wrestler and wrestling promoter Fritz Von Erich and a member of the Von Erich family.
