My Take
Nikita Koloff is a perfect example of wrestling's Cold War theater. Born Nelson Scott Simpson in Minnesota, he was repackaged as a Russian villain and rode that gimmick through Jim Crockett Promotions and WCW from 1984 to 1992. What I appreciate is how committed the act was, all the way down to claiming Lithuania once the Soviet Union dissolved. At 191 cm with a football background, he had the physical presence to sell it. I'd say his run captures an era when American audiences booed a 'Russian' who was really a college kid from Moorhead. That kayfabe craft fascinates me.
