My Take
I'll be straight with you: Niko Kawagoe isn't someone I can pretend to know inside out, and honestly that's part of what keeps her interesting to me. Born in 2003 and stepping into this line of work as young as she did, she's got a kind of quiet nerve that I respect, and her route in, from Hachijō Island to a professional kitchen in Tokyo, is not one you hear every day. Rather than fill in what she hasn't said with guesses, I'd just take her at her word. She does seem to keep things ticking over on Instagram and X, so if she's caught your eye, that's where I'd point you. Sometimes the people who stay a little out of focus are the ones you end up curious about the longest, and she fits that bill for me.
