My Take
I'll be honest — I came to Nina Dobrev through The Vampire Diaries like pretty much everyone else, and I fully expected to see another CW pretty face doing the brooding supernatural thing. What I didn't expect was how much range she'd pack into that show: playing Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce simultaneously, with two completely different energy signatures, is legitimately hard acting that doesn't get enough credit outside the fandom. Born in Sofia, Bulgaria and raised in Canada, she cut her teeth on Degrassi before landing the role that made her a household name in 2009. She's since moved into films — The Perks of Being a Wallflower, xXx: Return of Xander Cage — proving she's not content to be forever tied to Mystic Falls. There's a scrappiness to her career that I genuinely respect.
