Noriko Ishigaki

Noriko Ishigaki reached the House of Councillors by way of radio, and that route interests me. Born in Shiogama in 1974 and raised in Sendai, and educated at Miyagi University of Education, she worked as a radio personality before winning the Miyagi at-large seat in 2019 for the Constitutional Democratic Party. Radio is an odd training ground for politics: no face, no styling, just a voice and words arriving in somebody's kitchen or car. Do that for years in your own region and the local mood seeps into you whether you invite it or not. I suspect the most valuable thing she carried into national politics is an ear for how ordinary people actually speak.
