My Take
To me, Pat Miletich represents the quiet bedrock of modern mixed martial arts. Becoming the first UFC Welterweight Champion was impressive enough, but what genuinely earns my respect is what came after the cage. Founding Miletich Fighting Systems and developing a string of future champions shows a rare instinct: the desire not just to win, but to pass strength forward. Plenty of fighters are dangerous; very few become great teachers. That blend of blue-collar Iowa grit and generosity as a coach is why I rank him among the sport's most important early architects, regardless of his win-loss record.
