My Take
Peter Dinklage's four Emmy wins for Tyrion Lannister are the statistic, but they are not the story. The story is an actor who spent his lean years refusing roles he found demeaning, betting his entire career on the idea that craft would eventually outweigh typecasting. It did, spectacularly. What I value in his performances is the layering: irony, intelligence, and grief all alive in the same line reading, delivered in that unmistakable baritone. From The Station Agent to the biggest franchises on earth, he commands the frame through stillness and timing alone. For my money he is one of the finest character actors America has produced.
