My Take

Rebecca Sugar is, to me, one of the most quietly important creators in modern animation. Building Steven Universe at Cartoon Network and becoming the first non-binary person to independently create a series there is a landmark, and the show's reputation for warmth and emotional honesty backs it up. What I find remarkable is that she's not just a writer but a composer and songwriter too, so the music carrying so much of that storytelling is by design, not accident.
