Shoko Takiwaki

Shoko Takiwaki, a Yokohama kid born in 2001, is a member of the voice-actor idol group =LOVE. She once won a spot as an extra in an HKT48 music video because she was a fan of Nako Yabuki, and now she is the one on stage. She's plugged into the now, too: real Instagram, real presence on X, that direct line to fans that defines this generation. There's something about a girl raised on that breezy Yokohama seaside coming out and beaming at a crowd that makes me want to root for her without overthinking it. I don't know where her career lands, but the youthful, unfinished brightness of it is exactly the kind of thing I find easy to cheer on.
