Richie Ramone

Richie Ramone fascinates me because he was more than a hired hand behind the Ramones. Drumming from 1983 to 1987, the New Jersey native also wrote songs for the band, stepping into the creative core in a way most replacements never do. Punk drumming gets dismissed as pure speed, but his playing gave the group fresh propulsion. As one of the band's few surviving members today, he carries real historical weight, and the fact that he still tours and pounds out that roar on his own keeps the spirit alive. A drummer who never let the punk fire die.
