Rinne Yoshida

Rinne Yoshida, born in Sapporo in December 2000, works as both a singer and a rapper. That combination is more interesting than it sounds. In Japan, an artist who emerges from an idol-adjacent context and then picks up a microphone to rap tends to get met with a raised eyebrow first and a fair hearing second. Simply continuing past that skepticism takes a kind of stubbornness that does not show up in a profile summary. She also carries a solo career under her own name, which means there is no group to absorb a bad night. Besides her solo work she has fronted the band MAGI©PEPA and raps under the name RINNE HIP. What I can say is that a young artist from Hokkaido moving fluidly between singing and rapping is a shape worth watching, and the interesting part of that story is probably still ahead of her rather than behind.
