Riyo Mori

Riyo Mori is, to me, one of the more distinctive Miss Universe winners. Crowned in Mexico City in 2007, she was never just a pageant queen. Her background as a ballet dancer is written all over her bearing, the elongated lines, the controlled grace that you simply cannot fake. At 175 cm she carries her height like a stage, moving as if every step were choreographed. For me, 2007 still feels like a proud milestone, the year a Japanese woman stood at the very top.
