Robert Almer

Robert Almer is the sort of footballer I instinctively root for: a 194 cm goalkeeper who climbed from Bruck an der Mur up to the top of the Austrian game. Keepers rarely get the romance strikers do, but the position demands a special blend of nerve, reading, and patience, and Almer clearly had it. Now moving into coaching, he's doing what the best keepers do at the end, passing on positioning and calm to the next generation. I have a soft spot for these quiet craftsmen who guard the back while the spotlight chases goals.
