My Take
Sakana-kun's list of occupations reads like a punchline: illustrator, television personality, ichthyologist, author. Any one of them is a full career, yet all four grow from the same root — an obsession with fish that nobody ever managed to talk him out of. Born in Tokyo in 1975, he turns fifty-one this year, and the boxfish hat and the delighted shouting can make him look like pure children's entertainment. Then you learn he was part of the story behind the rediscovery of the kunimasu, a trout long declared extinct. "Follow your passion" is far too small a phrase. He pushed a childhood fixation all the way into science.
