Seiya Watanabe

Seiya Watanabe was born on August 31, 2002, in Fuchū, Hiroshima Prefecture, and plays outfield for the Saitama Seibu Lions. He went from Koryo High School and Osaka University of Commerce to the Saitama Seibu Lions as a second-round pick in the 2024 draft, and made his first-team debut in March 2025. Outfield is a brutally competitive place to make a career in Japanese professional baseball. There are always several players capable of covering the ground, so playing time comes down almost entirely to what a hitter produces, and a cold stretch costs starts quickly. For a player in his early twenties, these first seasons are where the door either opens or quietly narrows. Coming from a smaller city in Hiroshima to compete in the Pacific League is already an achievement most players never manage. I am genuinely curious how this entry reads a few years from now.
