Shellback

Shellback fascinates me precisely because most listeners have hummed his work without ever knowing his name. A longtime collaborator of Max Martin, he belongs to the circle of Swedish pop craftsmen who quietly engineer the world's biggest hits. Topping Billboard's producer and songwriter charts in 2012 and collecting four Grammys is not luck; it is an almost industrial mastery of melody. I have a real soft spot for these behind-the-scenes architects who shape culture from the shadows while the singers take the spotlight. To me, he is one of pop's most invisible yet indispensable forces.
