Shunsuke Michieda

Michieda is the sort of young performer I approach with suspicion and then quietly come around on. Born in Osaka in 2002, he sings with the boy band Naniwa Danshi and carries leading roles as an actor, and for a while the conversation around him was almost entirely about his face. Then came the television series The Files of Young Kindaichi and the film Even If This Love Disappears From the World Tonight, and it became clear there was real craft underneath the looks. Splitting yourself between idol work and acting usually means doing both at seventy percent; he seems to be doing both properly, and audiences well beyond Japan have noticed. He is still in his early twenties. Honestly, the version of him I am most curious about is the one ten years from now.
