My Take
Stephanie Mawuli is the kind of player who makes you realize Japanese women's basketball is genuinely worth watching. Standing 181 cm with the wingspan and instincts to match, she came up through Sakuragakuen High School — which is basically the powerhouse factory for Japanese women's hoops — and then went right into the pros. Her big stage was the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, where she played for Japan in 3x3 basketball and helped the team reach the quarterfinals after being named MVP of the qualifying tournament. Her sister Evelyn also plays pro ball, so this is just straight-up a basketball family. Quiet off the court, serious on it — the type whose legacy is built in film sessions and fourth quarters rather than press conferences.
