My Take

What draws me to Susana Harp is the rare arc from stage to senate. Plenty of singers lend their name to causes, but actually serving as a senator for Oaxaca is a different order of commitment. Oaxaca is one of Mexico's most culturally rich, indigenous-rooted states, and I read her path as someone who first protected that heritage through song and now defends it through policy. Born in 1968 and still active, she strikes me as a figure who refuses to let an artist's empathy stay symbolic. That fusion of voice and governance is harder than it sounds, and I respect it.
