My Take
There's something almost poetic about a kid from rural Miyazaki who moved to Tokyo at fifteen to live in a wrestling dojo — like she decided early to arrive with a bang and never stop swinging. Suzu Suzuki stepped into the world of Japanese women's pro wrestling while still a teenager, and that alone tells you something about her drive. Women's puroresu has a brutal, unforgiving reputation even by wrestling standards, with stiff strikes and a crowd that does not hand out respect cheaply — and yet here she is, carving out her own name in it. Born in 2002, she belongs to a generation that grew up watching the women before her fight for legitimacy in the sport, and now she gets to stand on that foundation and push further. Her résumé at Ice Ribbon, Pure-J and Stardom is impressive, but the fact that she chose this path, at that age, in that world, is the statement.
