Taku Izumi

You almost certainly know his music without knowing his name. Izumi wrote Miagete Goran Yoru no Hoshi o, Te no Hira o Taiyo ni, and the GeGeGe no Kitaro theme, melodies wired straight into postwar Japanese memory, thousands of them by most accounts. Then, late in life, he took a seat in the House of Councillors and held it until his death in 1992.
