My Take

Teemu Selänne is, for my money, one of hockey's purest joys to celebrate. The Finnish Flash exploded onto the NHL with a rookie season for the ages, won the Calder, later the Rocket Richard, and capped 21 seasons with a Stanley Cup in Anaheim before his inevitable Hall of Fame induction. But what elevates him in my eyes is the Masterton Trophy for sportsmanship and perseverance. Greatness paired with grace is rare. He played with a goal-scorer's flair and a gentleman's smile, and Finland could not have asked for a finer ambassador. I admire him without reservation.
