My Take

Tina Weymouth is genuinely one of the most underrated figures in rock history, and I say that as someone who thinks Talking Heads are one of the greatest bands to ever exist. She came in as a relative beginner on bass — self-taught, learning on the job — and ended up anchoring one of the most rhythmically adventurous bands of the late '70s and '80s. That locked-in, hypnotic groove she laid down on tracks like Psycho Killer and once in a Lifetime? That's the foundation everything else dances on top of. And then she co-founded Tom Tom Club with husband Chris Frantz, which gave us Genius of Love — a song so infectiously funky it's been sampled more times than I can count. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee in 2002, and honestly, still not celebrated enough.
