My Take
Growing up in the shadow of Mount Fuji in Fujinomiya, Shizuoka, and then choosing a life in professional wrestling — there's something genuinely romantic about that trajectory, and Toshie Uematsu has it. Women's pro wrestling in Japan is a brutally demanding world — the training is punishing, the spotlight is rarely as bright as it deserves to be, and staying in that world long-term takes a specific kind of stubborn courage. She worked more than 100 matches a year as a freelancer after GAEA folded, became the first WCW Women's Cruiserweight Champion, and retired in 2012 still holding three tag belts. Now she is back home running Fujinomiya Pro-Wrestling and teaching at a gym — the grinder who keeps going, ring or not.
