My Take
Vicky Krieps is one of those rare actors who can walk into a room dominated by a legend — Daniel Day-Lewis at his most ferocious in Phantom Thread — and quietly steal the whole thing. She plays stillness like a weapon. Coming out of Luxembourg via Zurich's arts school, she's built a career in German, French, and American productions that doesn't follow any obvious playbook, and that's exactly what makes her so compelling to watch. Winning the European Film Award for Best Actress in 2022 felt like a long-overdue signal flare for audiences who maybe hadn't caught up yet. France's Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres the following year just confirmed what anyone paying attention already knew: this woman is the real deal, operating on her own frequency.
