My Take

Windom is the platonic ideal of the working character actor, and I have enormous affection for that breed. A Williams College man with an Emmy for comedy lead, he could carry a show, yet he's best remembered for support: Dr. Seth Hazlitt opposite Angela Lansbury, and Commodore Decker in Star Trek. That tells you everything. He understood that a story often lives or dies on the player beside the star. Stage, screen, television, he gave his whole life to the craft until 2012. I'll always root for actors who serve the work over the spotlight.
