Xavier Becerra

Xavier Becerra interests me as a study in unglamorous persistence. Raised in Sacramento, he climbed from law into Congress, then served as California's attorney general, and finally ran the Department of Health and Human Services under President Biden. None of these jobs makes for flashy headlines, yet each demands enormous administrative stamina and a tolerance for grinding detail that most ambitious politicians lack. I admire public servants who treat government as plumbing rather than theater, and Becerra strikes me as exactly that type: methodical, durable, and chronically easy to underestimate. In an era of performative politics, that quiet competence feels almost radical.
