My Take

Zeppo always gets shortchanged as the bland Marx brother, the straight man nobody quotes. I think that misses the point entirely. Anarchic comedy needs a still center, and he supplied it without fuss across those first five films. The detail I love is what came after: he walked away from performing and reinvented himself as an inventor with real patents. That second act tells you he was never just decorative. The quietest sibling turned out to have the most unexpected mind. I find that arc far more interesting than another funny face would have been.
