Zhou Shen

Zhou Shen is one of those rare singers whose instrument alone justifies the attention. From Shaoyang in China, he wields a crystalline, almost androgynous upper register that genuinely stops you cold the first time you hear it. What I value most is that he wins on tone and feeling rather than gimmickry, anchoring countless film soundtracks from Big Fish and Begonia to The Wandering Earth 2. His 2019 MTV Europe Music Award for Best Greater China Act felt earned, not engineered. In an era of manufactured voices, his is the real thing, and his global reach strikes me as the natural reward for that authenticity.
