My Take
Alec Baldwin is, to me, the great case study in second acts. He began as a square-jawed leading man, but his real gift surfaced only when he embraced character work, delivering one of television's perfect comic performances and collecting Emmys, Golden Globes, and Screen Actors Guild awards for it. His off-screen life has been turbulent, sometimes gravely so, and I do not wave that away. But purely as a student of acting, I keep returning to that baritone voice and that precision of timing. Few performers can dominate a scene while appearing to do almost nothing, and that economy is his signature.
