My Take
Alexi Laiho was, for my money, one of the most electrifying guitarists metal ever produced. With Children of Bodom he fused neoclassical melody and brutal, blistering speed into something distinctly Nordic, cold and gorgeous all at once. The first time I heard one of his solos I genuinely got chills: impossible velocity that somehow still sang. Losing him at 41 in 2020 felt like a real wound to the genre. He played and lived with that headlong Aries intensity right to the end. Those riffs still loop in my head, and I doubt they'll ever fully stop.
