My Take
Allan Donald earned the nickname White Lightning the hard way, becoming what many regard as South Africa's finest fast bowler. I'm drawn to fast bowlers because the role is so unforgiving: raw pace punishes the body and forgives no lapse in courage. Donald embodied that ferocity, and his 1992 Wisden honor confirmed it. What I respect even more is the second act, coaching Bangladesh and passing his craft to a developing cricket nation. Great athletes who become patient teachers reveal a generosity the highlight reels never capture, and that arc, from intimidator to mentor, is the part of his story I admire most.
