My Take

Ana Rezende interests me because she's a genuine double threat: a film director and a musician who don't seem to compete for her attention so much as feed each other. As the guitarist and keyboardist of CSS, she was part of a Brazilian band that broke through internationally with a sound full of energy and irreverence, and I find it telling that she didn't stop there. Moving into directing suggests an artist drawn to storytelling in more than one medium. Coming out of São Paulo, she strikes me as part of that wave of Brazilian creatives who carried a distinctly local energy onto a global stage, and I'd be curious to follow where her filmmaking heads next.
