My Take
Bill Richardson fascinates me for the sheer range of his life. A Tufts graduate who once chased a baseball career, he became governor of New Mexico, U.N. ambassador, and energy secretary. But what I respect most is his willingness to fly into dangerous places as a freelance negotiator, repeatedly working to free Americans detained abroad. To me he was less a collector of titles than a man of nerve who put himself in harm's way for others. He passed in 2023, and I want to remember him for that selfless instinct rather than the resume alone.
