Buddy Elias

Buddy Elias moves me more than almost anyone. He was a genuinely versatile performer, a stage, film, and television actor who even worked as a clown, but his deepest role was off the stage. As president of the Anne Frank Fonds and cousin to Anne Frank, he devoted himself to preserving her memory and the cause of peace. I find that duality remarkable: a man whose job was to make people laugh and feel, who also carried one of history's heaviest legacies with quiet dignity. Living both lives across nearly ninety years earns my deepest respect.
