Carolina Bang

Bang strikes me as one of those rare talents who refuses to stay on one side of the camera. Born in Tenerife, she's both an actress and a film producer, and she earned a Goya nomination for Best New Actress in 2010. I love the offbeat, darkly comic Spanish cinema she's associated with, and there's a vivid life force in her screen presence that's hard to manufacture. What impresses me most is her decision to also shape projects from behind the scenes, taking control of the storytelling itself. To me she embodies the bold, genre-bending spirit that makes contemporary Spanish film so endlessly watchable.
