My Take
What draws me to Christine Anu is how she carries Torres Strait Islander heritage onto the mainstream stage without ever flattening it for broad appeal. Her 1995 take on "My Island Home" was more than a hit; it felt like a quiet act of cultural assertion that an entire country embraced. The shelf of ARIA and Deadly Awards confirms the craft, but I value her most as a bridge-builder, a voice that lets Australia hear a part of itself it too often overlooks. That she also acts only deepens my sense of her as a generous, multi-dimensional artist.
