My Take
Courtney Barnett is one of those artists I'd happily put on for anyone. That deadpan delivery paired with rambling, observational lyrics is a sound I don't think enough people pull off without sounding gimmicky, yet she makes it feel effortless and honest. Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit deserved every bit of attention it got, and the pile of 2015 ARIA Awards plus the Australian Music Prize tells you the recognition was real. I also like that she's a guitarist first, not just a vocalist. To me she represents a very Australian brand of unfussy, witty songwriting, and I find that refreshing.
