Dai-Kang Yang

Dai-Kang Yang's story starts with a decision most teenagers never have to make: leave Taitung in Taiwan and finish high school in Fukuoka, in a language you are still learning, at a school that expects you to win. Everything after that grew out of that move. He built his reputation as an outfielder in Japanese professional baseball, the kind of player whose range makes the whole defense look calmer than it is, and he has kept going long enough to show up on the Oisix Niigata Albirex roster. What I find worth pausing on is the durability. Careers built on one loud season are common; careers built on staying useful across two countries' baseball cultures are not. He is of Amis descent, one of Taiwan's indigenous peoples, and his elder brother Yao-Hsun Yang also pitched in Japan. The part that is documented — a Taiwanese kid who made Japanese baseball his working life and is still in uniform — is honestly the more interesting story anyway.
