My Take

What strikes me most about Dick Clark is how he turned hosting into an institution. Anyone can introduce a band, but anchoring American Bandstand for three decades and then becoming the voice that rang in the New Year for millions on Rockin' Eve is a different kind of feat. He never needed to be the loudest person in the room; he made the talent shine while quietly becoming a fixture of American life.
