My Take

Evelyn Stevens fascinates me less for her palmares than for her arc. A Dartmouth graduate from Claremont who pivoted into professional road cycling is not the standard origin story, and that mid-life leap of faith is what I keep coming back to. It takes real nerve to abandon a conventional path and bet everything on your own legs and lungs. Retired now, she leaves behind the impression of someone who refused to coast on academic credentials when she could grind up a mountain instead. I have enormous respect for athletes who choose the harder, sweatier road.
