My Take

Glen Matlock is, to me, the unsung architect of punk. Being credited on ten of the twelve songs on Never Mind the Bollocks despite leaving early is an extraordinary footnote that should really be a headline. While Rotten and Vicious soaked up the mythology, Matlock supplied the actual songcraft, the melodic sense that made the Sex Pistols' chaos stick. His art-school background hints at the intelligence underneath the noise, and I think that tension between melody and rebellion is what makes their music endure. I find quiet, foundational figures like him far more interesting than the loudest person in the room.
