Han Zheng

Han Zheng is one of those figures who rose through the ranks so quietly that by the time most people outside China noticed him, he was already near the very top. A Shanghai native who spent decades building his career in that city before ascending to the Politburo Standing Committee and then the vice premiership, he's the archetype of the patient, methodical Chinese technocrat-politician — someone who combines an economist's eye for numbers with the long-game instincts of a party insider. Since taking the vice presidency in 2023, he's become China's face in international diplomacy on certain dossiers, which is fascinating given how little he's actually known in the West.
