My Take
Harvey Korman is, to me, the patron saint of the brilliant second banana. On The Carol Burnett Show he was the straight man who couldn't stay straight, famously corpsing whenever Tim Conway went off-script, and those broken takes became some of television's most beloved moments. A towering Chicago native with a DePaul education and four Emmys, he chose to serve the laugh rather than chase the spotlight. I admire that generosity enormously. Great comedy needs a generous reactor, and Korman gave Burnett's troupe its warmth and its timing. He is proof that supporting players can outlast the leads in our affection.
